Thank you for helping me curtail my anger at all this and my constant fear for my children and just hug and appreciate them more.Elvanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2462526990120254693.post-29611480866415635302013-01-07T20:40:33.178-06:002013-01-07T20:40:33.178-06:00Just getting around to reading this tonight. There is another great blog out there called 'We know what 6 looks like' that went a bit viral because it represented every parent of a 6ish kid was just struck so viscerally with empathetic grief that it was almost debilitating. But as always your thoughts are well written and well thought and I'm always glad to come by and read them. We all need to find our "icing and M&M's" every now and then. Thanks for reminding me. Oh, and if you really want the punchline to the elf joke, email me and I'll confirm it for you. Happy Holidays. I defriended several people who posted on Facebook about gun control while everything was still going on.
While having auntie time with my nieces yesterday I made cookies and they decorated. I couldn't help but just watch how innocent they all are and how they find joy in something as small as some icing and m&ms. It hurts my heart to think of how scared those children must have been.
Thank you for this post. Even though I love when you're raunchy and funny ( I think I know the punch line to that elf joke), I always enjoy when you let your heart show.
I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas, DP.

Lauralauraphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02493083319459486739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2462526990120254693.post-41043348589286389522012-12-23T16:14:30.040-06:002012-12-23T16:14:30.040-06:00Beautiful! While it hardly seems to "be enough," it does remind us that there is good in the world, we just have to look a little harder at times to find it. Last week in line at the Starbucks drive thru, the car in front of me bought my tea. It was such a lovely gesture, I did it for the car behind me. And it got me thinking, what else could I do to actually help someone this time of year? Mike and I went to Kmart, and paid off the layaway for someone. They only pick toys or clothes, so it directly benefits a child. Then, Mike handed out gift cards to people at the grocery store. Nothing major, just a little way to stop and think of others for a moment. And who knows what the impact may be, but as long as it made someone smile, it feels good! Thanks for making us stop and think on this. Merry Christmas to you and the SLF. I can't comprehend the thought of anything happening to any of my students. When I heard about what happened I was reduced to tears and a feeling of helplessness that I can't describe. I grieve for the parents, the students, the community. Since then, my own school has changed procedure and I teach in a classroom that is locked.
